Pudong Miracle: From Countryside to China’s Powerhouse

Twenty-eight years ago, Pudong, a district of Shanghai in eastern China, was mostly covered with farmland.

Today, however, Pudong has developed into an export-oriented, multi-functional and modernized new part of the Magic City. Pudong New District was born in 1990, during China’s reform and opening-up and has since prospered with it. Pudong now enjoys continuous and rapid economic and social development, and has become the symbol of China’s reform and opening-up, as well as the epitome of Shanghai’s modernization.

It is very young area, with high spirits. The future of Pudong is full of possibilities and hope.
