Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made an official visit to China from October 25-27,as China and Japan jointly announced on October 12. China and Japan have expressed their joint intention to vigorously promote cooperation in third-party markets. Why? What is the meaning and role of this cooperation? Δ President Xi Jinping meets with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Beijing on Oct. 26th. Li Tao / Xinhua Firstly, both China and Japan are countries with relative excess in endowment of production factors such as capital and production capacity. After the domestic economy develops to a certain stage, it is no longer able to rely on continuous large-scale domestic investment to obtain endogenous development, as is seen in periods of rapid economic growth. Motivation must rely on improving management and technology, especially through the core technologies of major industrial sectors to gain new development momentum, relying on technological innovation as a new impetus for economic development. Secondly, most of the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative are developing countries, and some are emerging industrial countries in the process of catching up. They are emerging from poverty, with their economies just preparing to take off or just beginning to take off. In this stage, there is an urgent need for capital and technology. In particular, it is more necessary to build […]

There is much that unites China and Europe. Whilst Donald Trump’s isolated, “America First” strategy has hurt countries economically, it has created possibilities to strengthen and build new relationships. China and the European Union’s (EU) is one relationship that has matured greatly over the last few years. Trade now averages at over €1 billion a day, and both see eye to eye on a range of issues, from climate change to multilateralism, free trade to reform in the World Trade Organisation. “Solid Foundation, Enormous Potential and Bright Prospects” Chinese Premier Li Keqiang successful visit last week to Europe, where he visited Belgium, the Netherlands, the latter which signed trade deals reaching US$10 billion and the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), was another chance to reaffirm the strong values that Europe and China hold. (Xinhua/Gao Jie) “Cooperation between Asia and Europe has a solid foundation, enormous potential and bright prospects,” said Premier Li in his speech at the ASEM summit. On multilateralism, Premier Li spoke of Europe and Asia’s joint responsibility to “lead the way” in keeping multilateral institutions alive, as well as adhering to and reviewing a rules-based system, such as those offered by the World Trade Organization (WTO). In the Netherlands, Li’s keynote speech at the business forum […]

China does not need and will not seek a release of pressure on commodity exports by guiding the RMB to unilaterally depreciate sharply. In fact, this is also unfavorable to China in its efforts to attract foreign investment and enhance its import capacity.

Deng Xiaoping’s “Southern Tour Speech” is well known to both domestic and foreign audiences. In fact, Deng Xiaoping also published views known as his “Northern Talks”. In September 1978, after listening to a report from the Party Committee of the Liaoning Provincial Party Committee in Shenyang, Deng delivered an important speech covering topics including emancipating the mind, seeking truth from facts and shifting the focus of work. Discussions as well as Deng’s speeches in Benxi, Daqing, Harbin, Anshan, Tianjin and other places together constituted a “Northern Talk” and laid the foundation for the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Party Central Committee. In 1978, the total industrial output value of Liaoning Province accounted for 9.7% of China’s total industrial output value in the same period, and accounted for 54% of total industrial output value in the three northeastern provinces. Liaoning’s total industrial output ranked second in all provinces and autonomous regions in China. In the following 40 years, Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Jilin experienced the decline, adjustment and recovery of the old industrial base. In the first half of 2018, Liaoning’s GDP ranked 14th out of China’s 31 provinces and autonomous regions. From September 25-28, General Secretary Xi Jinping made inspection visits to Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces, and hosted a seminar on promoting Northeast Revitalization in Shenyang. Xi launched six […]

The opening of the high-speed rail link between Hong Kong and the mainland has once again brought the economic benefits of this new age technology into the limelight. A long way since 1876, when the first commercial train was launched in China, this new catalyst for continued economic growth is gradually becoming the norm. The network is changing China in many ways. Like railway towns that sprouted along the tracks in 19th century Britain and America, urban growth in China too is following the rail lines. Offices, residential areas and shopping districts which were non-existent only a decade back, are mushrooming as lines continue to be built. [Photo/Xinhua] Adjacent to congested commercial cities, where house prices are comparatively high, bullet trains have created new satellite towns. All the amenities of large metropolises are available to these towns through their fast transport links. Local governments find it especially helpful to efficiently manage large, but not oversized cities. This high-speed railway network has resulted in the creation of business opportunities. It is an extensive eco-system that is generating profits not merely through the sale of tickets but through its overall […]
